A capacity figure becomes comparable only after the buyer fixes the material, machine state, output method, and system boundary. Two quotations that both say “20 t/h” may describe different species, moisture, diameters, knife conditions, screens, feeding rates, chip classes, and downtime accounting.
Public figures help define the size of a candidate, but they aren’t normalized production guarantees. TCPEL publishes a vendor range of 3–60 t/h, 55–710 kW, 230–600 mm maximum log diameter, and 30–50 mm chips across its current TC family. Pezzolato lists an 800 mm maximum log diameter, a 1,200 × 1,100 mm inlet, and 563–585 kW for the reviewed PTH 1200/1000 M configuration.
Other official pages show why model context matters. JENZ lists up to 160 loose m³/h, a 190–420 hp tractor range, an 820 mm drum, a 1,000 × 700 mm infeed, and about 12.5 t for the reviewed HEM 5600 Z. Komptech lists a 1,100 mm open drum with 340 kW or 430 kW drive choices for the Axtor family. Albach publishes 790 hp, a 1,230 mm feed width, a 10.1 m crane, and road travel up to 80 km/h for the DIAMANT 2000. These are vendor-stated anchors from different test and application boundaries.
Sales language also needs translation. A drum-style chipper may be advertised among the “best wood chippers,” “top wood chipper” choices, or commercial wood chippers, but those labels don’t establish fit. If a chipper comes with several engine options, ask whether they’re diesel engines, electric models, gas models, PTO drives, or another power source. A model token such as 12XP doesn’t prove that the machine uses the same drum style, feed system, or safety package as another model in the range.
Feed claims require the same discipline. Record the feed wheel or dual feed wheels, infeed hopper, throat opening, self-feeding behavior, measured pulling power, and whether a cab and loader are included. For stationary chip-production contracts, ISO 18135:2017 is a useful sampling reference where the parties agree it applies. The public record covers sampling plans, certificates, and taking solid-biofuel samples. For particle-size distribution, ISO 17827-1:2024 specifies a horizontally oscillating screen method. Citing a method is not enough; the contract must state the sample location, increments, sample mass, preparation, screen set, and pass/fail limits.
